Craft Beats

Craft-Beats is an interactive sound installation and creative coding project that turns everyday objects into music. Designed for public spaces, it invites people to collect items around them, record the sounds they make, and instantly build a layered beat through looping multi-track playback. The entire experience is intentionally screen-free—with audio prompts and feedback only—so users focus on listening, rhythm, and play instead of visuals.

Built through rapid prototyping and iteration, Craft-Beats explores sound-based interaction design, human-computer interaction, and tangible musical interfaces. The final system uses a simple guided flow (shout-to-start, timed recording, automatic looping, and auto-reset) to keep sessions quick, approachable, and fun for first-time users. Each run produces a unique composition because every person chooses different objects and creates different textures—making the installation feel fresh every time.

Craft-Beats sits at the intersection of product design + creative technology + public interactive installations, demonstrating how playful constraints and minimal interfaces can create richer engagement, stronger attention, and memorable shared experiences.
